Hestur is the only village on the island Hestur.
‘Hestur’ means ‘horse’ in Faroese.
The village is located on the eastside of the island and enjoys the view over Gamlaratt and Velbastađur on Streymoy.
An attempt to fight the depopulation of the village a swimmingpool was built on the island in 1974.
On the south-part of the island by the lake Fagradalsvatn it is possible to camp.
On the vestside of Hestur impressive bird-cliffs rise from the sea. They are inhabited by birds thousands of birds. Trips are arranged to these bird-cliffs by boat from Tórshavn . If the weather is good it is definitely worth spending a day on a trip like this.
Hestur is connected to Gamlaraett on Streymoy by a ferry once or twice a day.
