Funningur is located on the north-west coast of Eysturoy.
Behind the village rises the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands: Slættaratindur (882m).
Tradition says that the first man who settled on the Faroe Islands settled in Funningur. This was Grimur Kamban. He came from the British Islets
(or possibly from Norway) and settled here in the year 800.
The church in Funningur is from 1847. |
