Saltnes is part of a chain of villages stretching over a distance of 10 kilometres on the east side of Skálafjørður-inlet on Eysturoy.
Saltnes lies on the foreland outermost on the east side of the inlet.
In 1843 a school was built here. The materials used came from the old church in Nes as they were building a new church there.
